Chapter 10 - Angels, Satan, & Demons


Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind.

A. What are Angels?
  1. Created spiritual beings - Psalm 148:2,5; Nehemiah 9:6; Colossians 1:16.

B. The Place of Angels in God’s Purpose
  1. Angels show the greatness of God’s love and plan for us.
  2. Angels remind us that the unseen world is real - 2 Kings 6:17.
  3. Angels are examples for us - Revelation 5:11-12.
  4. Angels carry out some of God's plans:

C. Our Relationship to Angels
  1. We should be aware of angels in our daily lives - Hebrews 13:2; Daniel 6:22; Acts12:7-11.

  1. Satan means adversary - Job 1:2-2:7; 1 Chronicles 21:1; Zechariah 3:1.

F. The Activity of Satan and Demons
  1. Satan was the originator of sin - Genesis 3:1-6; 1 John 3:8.
  2. Demons oppose and try to destroy every work of God - 2 Corinthians 4:4; Galatians 4:8.
  3. Demons are limited by God - Job 1:12; 2:6.
  4. We should not think that demons can know the future or that they can read our minds or know our thoughts.
G. Our Relationship to Demons
  1. Demons are active today.
  2. Not all evil and sin is from Satan, but some is - John 8:44; 1 Timothy 4:1; 2 Timothy 24-26.
  3. Christians cannot be demon possessed - Romans 6:14.
  4. Christians can suffer because of demons - Luke 13:11,16.
  5. Jesus give believers authority over demons - Luke 10:17.
  6. We should expect the gospel to triumph over the works of the devil - 1 John 3:8; Matthew 16:18.
